Sentinel
In the work Sentinel, a matte black vinyl floor installation references the watchful presence of Google Earth. The abstracted form of the vinyl is drawn from the accidental shadow sometimes visible in Google Street View, a technology featured in Google Earth and Maps, cast by the car-mounted camera used to record the map’s 360-degree imagery. In the gallery, the shadow’s form is magnified and stretched across the floor, revealing the continual surveillance of contemporary mapping technologies.
